Orange, Vodafone launch iPhone – hold off your iPhone purchase
October 1st, 2009
If you’re considering getting an Apple iPhone, you would be well advised to hold off your purchase for a month or two. Orange are set to offer the iPhone later this year whilst Vodafone will be offering it from next year. Both networks will offer the 3G and 3G S models (it was previously reported that only the older 3G model would be available on other networks).

More competition
The result of this news is that all of the major networks will offer the iPhone in the UK – O2 already had it, Orange and Vodafone now have it (and T-Mobile since it’s merging with Orange). That leaves just purpose-built 3G operator Three without the iPhone – a network which has recently been offering very competitive tariffs.
Although neither Orange or Vodafone have yet released tariff information yet but we can be sure that prices will fall once we see a lot more competition in the area and O2 need to fight to keep their iPhone customers.
O2 deny price cuts
O2 have said that they will not cut iPhone prices. Of course, they would say that. Otherwise, who would buy an iPhone over the next few months? We’ve seen in other countries where the iPhone monopoly has been removed, prices of both the phone and tariff have fallen. It is quite reasonable to expect that the same will happen in the UK so I recommend waiting.
