If you want to sign up to the O2 unlimited Text and Web tariff please be advised that you need to be quick! The unlimited tariff is only available until the 31st October 2009 (just under 10 days time!).
Existing customers (many of you are on O2 Text Anytime and currently getting a limited number of free texts) need to switch by this date by texting TEXTANDWEB to 21300. You also need to top up once to complete the switch so do this as soon as possible.
New customers need to order their O2 SIM cards by this date. You can do this at O2′s website.
How does it work?
When you top up £15, you’ll get “unlimited” free texts and mobile web access for a period of 30 days following that top up. Although O2 advertise the service as “unlimited”, there is actually a limit:
- 12,000 texts (~400 texts per day)
- 500MB mobile internet allowance (~17MB per day)

You’re probably unlikely to exceed these allowances unless you have an iPhone/smartphone which uses ridiculous amounts of data. Even in a single Google Maps session, I usually don’t use more than 1MB.
What happens after the 31st October?
O2 are changing the terms of their “Text and Web” offer for customers who sign up from November onwards. The new allowances are still good and some of the best in the market but nowhere near as good:
- Top up between £10 and £14 a month will get 300 UK text messages
- Top up between £15 and £29 a month will get 500 UK texts and unlimited UK web access
- Top up more than £30 a month will get unlimited UK texts and unlimited UK web access

O2 have just reopened the unlimited internet & texts offer until January 31st.
I switched to this recently, really a great tariff!
Got a question too though – if I were to get an iPhone on O2 PAYG, would I have to use the sim and tariff that you get with it (Favourite Place), or could I use my current sim in the iPhone and just keep on using my Text and Web?
Please leave a comment if you know.. cheers
I presume this is only a PAYG tarrif ? no good for Simplicity users like me ?
Hi this is regarding the iphone, text and web question. I have just bought an iphone on pay&go and asked about putting my text and web sim from my old phone in it. I was told that you can do this but will have to change the web settings on the phone.. not sure how to do this, so there is another option.
i have phoned o2 and transferred my text and web tariff, old number, and balance onto the new sim (that i got with the iphone). Currently waiting for the transfer as it takes 24 hours, apparently.
also when i bought the iphone they told me i could alternativley just text the code to get text and web on the new sim, but would not get unlimited texts and internet for topping up £15, as the offer has ended, i wouldn’t get the unlimited texts.
Hope this helped (and makes sense !!)
i want unlimited textsss on o2 when toppin up 10.00 is it too latee?
These questions and answers must be very old because the offer did not end on October 31st. The ‘Text & Web’ offer is still going as far as i know as i am soon getting an iPhone on Pay As You Go and would want the Text & Web offer so i can have unlimited internet access. I posted this on Sunday 11th April 2010 and the offer is still going on the o2 website, so whoever posted that it finished on 31st October was obviously wrong because i have now got Text and Web tariff on my mobile now.
Go here to get you free sim on Text and Web or check out the other 5 different free tariffs you can choose from: http://www.o2.co.uk/explore/tariffs/paygo
Thanks and i hoped this help.
P.S You CAN use Text and Web on pay and go iPhones.
I signed up for text&web in October last year and i love it!
but… how it has changed will it change for me, as i would like to choose if i want to pay 10 or fifteen pounds or whether i would like the internet.
say if i top up £10 now will i just get the unlimited texts as 300 won’t last with me?
