Firefox Flicks
April 12th, 2006
The Firefox Flicks website has launched with 3 adverts. Just to refresh your memory, Firefox Flicks was a competition to create a 30 second television advert for Mozilla Firefox. The deadline for entries is in two days time so if you haven't entered yet there is still time!
The project launched in December and since then recieved over 150 entries. The guys at Mozilla plan to upload a few new adverts every few days.
- Double Click Relief is cubicle humour. Remember: 1 out of 10 leading IT professionals recommend Firefox; the other 9 can't be trusted.
- Daredevil is a really, really nice advert. It's basically a pun on "surfing". Motto: "My other browser is a surfboard"/"It's the best". Probably my favourite of the three. Is it just me or does the voice sound like a certain celebrity?
- Drama Queen is quite a funny advert and the end bit seemed quite professional. Interesting advert!
This advert isn't on the Firefox Flicks website but it's quite nice. "Joyride" was made by the same person who made Daredevil and was filmed in Venice. It's simple, no voiceover and feels kinda "Mastercard"-ish.
Acid 2
Firefox's reflow branch now supports Acid 2 and displays the smiley face as it should do. Firefox 3.0 should be the first version which ships with these rendering changes. I'm not a big fan of Acid 2 myself as I feel that it is very much one person's personal wishlist of browser features and doesn't exactly reflect what normal web developers need from web browsers.
