Homepage
February 16th, 2006
I’m currently using Firefox Start as my homepage; it hasn’t changed since I got Firefox and I’ve never really given it much thought. I’ve never actually used the search box on Firefox Start (browser search box rocks).
The first thing I do when I open up Firefox after school is usually open up Sage and spend a couple of hours just getting up to date with RSS feeds.
Do you use any specific homepage service which is of any use? I’ve previously tried Live which is alright but even after customization still provides no useful information.
It’d be interesting to hear what your homepage is and whether you use your homepage.

Google IG, been using it for ages, useful for keeping up to date with RSS feeds.
I use Google IG as my start page. It’s good for sticking all my RSS feeds on it so I can stay up to date on blogs, slashdot and such. Since I use gmail as my primary email service, I can also stay up to date with that.
I don’t like pages such as Google IG or Live. My homepage is set to Slashdot.
about:blank for me
Netvibes
Be amazed.
Thanks for the comments!
Are there any particularly good modules for Google IG/Live/Netvibes? The main reason I dislike them is because I subscribe to over 100 feeds. There is no way I am going to use IG/Live to keep up to date with 100 feeds, nor do I want to see it once on Sage and then again on IG/Live.
For e-mail I use Thunderbird to keep up to date with ~6 accounts so Gmail/Hotmail message list is useless for me.
I think you were just looking for a substitute home page, right? I love google and firefox, but your current homepage is just a search. Why do you need to justify moving homepages? Anything is probably better than what you have now. So just go to netvibes, add the google search module, a weather module, and a couple *favorite* feeds or something - and be happy. I dunno, throw a TO-DO list on there, or a simple "sticky" with some notes or something. I don’t think you are supposed to give up using gmail, thunderbird, and whatever else holds your 93,854 feeds and 349 email accounts.
Well, perhaps. I just don’t find any of these portal homepages useful and certainly since there is no immediate benefit as far as I can see, I don’t want to waste time on waiting for these pages to load or customizing them.
I wanted to see what homepages some readers had and to see whether people prefer Live/Google/etc.
