Google Pack

January 5th, 2006

There has been some talk of a Google Software Bundle called Google Pack today. You’ll be able to grab it here when it is launched (allegedly).

The pack will include:

  • Firefox
  • A version of Norton AntiVirus
  • Adobe Reader
  • RealPlayer
  • Trillian
  • Ad-Aware
  • Google Desktop Search
  • Google Earth
  • Picasa
  • Google Talk
  • Google Toolbar
  • [Google?] screensaver

There is speculation that Google will perhaps pay for your Norton AntiVirus subscription providing you keep the rest of the pack installed. I currently use AVG, but if Google provides free Norton it could be quite a killer. I already have the vast majority of the other programs installed (haven’t got Google Toolbar, Picasa, Google Desktop and Trillian).

The Wall Street Journal is the source of the details about Google Pack and Google’s video download rental service. I hope the fact that the WSJ reported it means that this is genuine and that WSJ have fact checked.

Neat, thanks for the notice. Norton only seems to have 6 months so I won’t be downloading this pack. Interesting that Realplayer isn’t there too (by default anyway)

Google updater idea is  a pretty nice idea, I won’t be using this though because of *nix.

Still want to hear more about this Google video deal.
