Zend Framework Search

December 2nd, 2005

Just read over here about the search component of the Zend Framework, ZSearch. The Zend Framework provides a pure PHP implementation of the awesome Lucene search engine from Apache. The web browser Flock uses (I believe) a C implementation of Lucene for the history/bookmark search.

The search looks incredibly simple. I’ve actually been looking for a replacement for the search engine in Geneone. The current system needs a total overhaul and I haven’t found MySQL’s fulltext particularly relevant. It also doesn’t search titles at the moment because the relevancy screwed up when I added title searching (probably an oversight on my part).

The Zend Framework is going to be BSD licensed with no strings attached (you can even use it in commercial projects and sell it). It’s already been called "PHP on Rails" :) Interesting project to keep an eye on.
