Reflections
September 24th, 2006
It’s been quite interesting watching the proliferation of reflections across the web over the last few months.
Reflection.js is still popular - it’s homepage has recieved 10,000 views so far this month. Last month it recieved 8,000; in July it had 17,000 views. The reflect-o-matic service has recieved 4,000 views. I’m not sure how many times the script has been downloaded but I’d hazard a guess somewhere around 20,000. What’s for sure - the reflection trend isn’t dying yet.
There was a post on Signal VS Noise about a week ago covering the whole reflection trend. Through the comments, I found a Nissan Website which is really on the whole 2.0, carousel and reflection trend. This one is really silly as it has Exhilaration_2.0, Family Room_2.0, Space_2.0, Technology_2.0 and it goes on.
So, where might reflections go next? Since Apple are adding reflections to everything, perhaps the Mac OS X 10.5 graphical kernel panic will get a reflection:

hi there,
first of all thanks for a great script (reflection).
I am running a Korean website where i share some good scripts with members and i recently introduced the reflection.
People love it. and i Do too!
well, I made just a little change and I feel that I should let you know about it.
line No, 75:
d.style.cssText = p.style.cssText;
was changed to
d.style.cssText = p.style.cssText + ‘ ; display: inline’;
and i guess you know what it does
Hi,
Does this fix solve the image alignment issues?
Khlo
Is there anyway to use the reflection.js script with PNG’s but get rid of the transparency bug in IE? I just tried another script to get rid of the grey box, but it rendered the reflection image invisible.
Anyone have a workaround so that reflections can be used with transparent PNGs?
Thanks.
hey i just finally found this site after seeing an interesting tutorial on producing the reflect effect with photoshop. that’s all fine and dandy for designing images but the main thing i do with websites (aside from sporadic basic designing) is pretty much simple stuff like using myspace.com or imeem.com
the problem, as you may guess by now, is that with sites like myspace, you’re given a limited allowance of HTML, CSS, etc… certainly nowhere to upload your own scripts (even in the blogs). so despite being able to Photoshop this nice and simple effect into images, i can’t seem to figure out how to get the script to work. i’ve tried just using a <script> tag to reference the reflection.js script from other sites but that doesn’t work because that particular tag is one they vehemently reject upon submission.
i realize myspace and imeem aren’t really relevant java-head forums but i kinda dig it since most of my friends are there. i’m just wondering if there’s a way i can somehow reference the script without using <script> tags and without being able to upload my own scripts. perhaps some CSS version or something. i’ve been outta the java loop since just after i got into it, so any help is highly appreciated.
thanks.
