Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Andromeda and Trek

Doctor Who

I’m not a big fan of Doctor Who this year. It seems like the novelty of Dr Who returning to the screens has worn off. Eccleston has left and instead we have David Tennant who does a pretty good job, but Eccleston was much better.

Some of the episodes this year have been a bit WTF including the last two parter which seemed to be pretty predictable. In comparison, last year’s World War 2 two-parter was fantastic. Don’t really understand how having Peter Kay (Garlic Bread) is suitable.

Ratings have been much lower this year and Billie Piper is leaving at the end of this season; obviously quitting whilst the show is still popular. Internet forums have been buzzing with speculation about who may replace her; Michelle Ryan has been suggested by many, Sky say it might be Freema Agyeman.

Doctor Who is currently showing on BBC One every Saturday.

Quantum Leap

I finished watching Quantum Leap a few weeks ago when ITV3 showed the last episode, "Mirror Image" which was a bit depressing. The last season was pretty immense.

Apparently one of the alternate endings for Season 5 which may have been used if Quantum Leap was brought back for a sixth season was to have Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) leap some 300 years into the future and materialise on a space station. It’s quite possible that Enterprise could be Quantum Leap canon.

A Quantum Leap movie/another series is in the works.

ITV3 are currently showing Quantum Leap every weekday at 10:40 in the morning and 6:00.

Andromeda

Andromeda is a pretty decent sci-fi show starring the legendary Kevin Sorbo (Hercules). It was created by Gene Roddenberry who also created Trek but the two shows are quite different. The Andromeda seems to have vastly superior technology and weapons to everyone else - there is none of the shields at 5% junk you get in Voyager or the usual scenario in Trek where a virus infects all the members of the crew but one of the crew just happens to be Vulcan and immune to it.

ITV4 show Andromeda on Tuesday nights but it is currently taking a break for the World Cup.

Star Trek

I’m currently watching season 3 of Enterprise. I caught season 4 on TV a while ago and I’ve watched the first two seasons on DVD. Season 4 was absolutely immense and I’m really annoyed they cancelled it. I suspect the only reason they made the last episode so crap was so people would be annoyed and would spam Paramount for a fifth series.

I watched up to half way through the third season of Voyager on five when they aired it a few months ago (before the Borg).

  • Battlestar Galatica gets it’s first showing on terrestrial TV in the UK next week. You can see it on Sky Three (Channel 11 on Freeview) on Thursday at 21:00. Apparently it’s really good but I haven’t seen any of it yet.

Yeah, I think that Eccleston was the better Dr. They have also been dropping loads of ‘hints’ about Rose’s departure (she dies in a battle?)

I haven’t picked up on any of the hints; where were they?

I’m not sure how she leaves but some people believe it might be something to do with the fact she stared into the Tardis and absorbed a lot of the energy in the first series. It’s all speculation though.
