CAPTCHA

Yeah, this CAPTCHA had me puzzled too. Soon CAPTCHAs will be so complicated only a computer could solve them.

    That CAPTCHA is just nuts (and btw, yours doesn’t work a lot of the time).

     And that reply thing has annoyed me many times, I always click it.

     btw2, have you added yourself on http://www.onecommune.net/planet/ ? :)

    btw3, I couldn’t post a comment until I logged in. I kept getting a "You must provide a name" error.

    I wasn’t aware of the commenting issue. I think we had a problem a while ago because of some updated session code I wrote but I believe that was fixed. Thanks for letting me know; I’ll investigate this.

    And no I haven’t submitted myself to be added to Planet OC as 95% of the posts I write these days tend to be nothing to do with forums so I probably wouldn’t qualify

    The guest commenting issue should have been fixed.

    But you have categories, just create a feed for each one :P

    </annoy>

    I’ll add it to my to-do list

    Wow. Got here by doing a Technorati search for CAPTCHA… that one is amazingly baroque. Not only do you have to deal with looking at the squares in numerical order in a parallel grid… the letters *still* aren’t legible even then! (Is character 4 ‘G’ or ‘C’? Is 6 ‘M’ or ‘N’?)

    Seriously, do the people who make these CAPTCHAs ever do any sort of user testing? Particularly since the whole *point* is to be a Turing test?

    I seriously doubt it I’ve posted a couple more crazy CAPTCHAs. The scary thing is these CAPTCHAs come straight from the next version of phpBB which is about to enter beta so the whole internet will be using them soon.

    I think people are putting too much faith in CAPTCHAs and need to come up with some other additional solutions for fighting spam and bots.

    Egads. That’s from phpBB? I thought that’s what the screenshots looked like, but I couldn’t believe they would roll out a CAPTCHA like that… You’re right, it’ll probably be all over the place very soon. (As if the *regular* CAPTCHAs weren’t bad enough for dyslexics!)

    Seriously, these CAPTCHAs remind me of the old saying about trying to kill a fly with a bazooka. It seems like utter overkill for the purpose of combating BBS spam.

    I am getting nailed with Spam in my forum for our bands website.  Is there anyway to stop this?

    If not, there really isn’t any point in leaving it up and active.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
